We received this solution from the Math Magicians Club at South Walney Junior School:
We placed the 9,8,7,6 in the units column because if we had 9,8,7,6 in the tens column then it would equal more than 100 by a larger difference.
If we had 5,4,3,2,1, you are more likely to reach 100 if you put these into the tens column.
If we rolled a high number at the start it is quite safe to place this into the tens column and then if you roll a high number again, it is best to place that number in the units.
Thank you Math Magicians. We would be interested to hear from anyone else who had some ideas about this challenge.
Vincent and Tara are making triangles with the class construction set. They have a pile of strips of different lengths. How many different triangles can they make?
