Underground Mathematics

Underground Mathematics

Many of our recent student features have involved resources from Underground Mathematics. Underground Mathematics provides creative resources that support teachers in the classroom. They help students build firm foundations for mathematical understanding by connecting ideas and developing techniques. The project is aimed at KS5 but there are many resources that could be tackled by students at KS4.

Its freely available site is at undergroundmathematics.org. Explore the site or access some of their resources by clicking on the titles below.

Two-way Algebra
Age 14 to 18
Challenge Level Yellow star

What different types of equations and inequalities do you know? Can they help you to fill in the table?

Floppy Hair
Age 16 to 18
Challenge Level Yellow star

Can you match the equations to the graphs?

Additional Integrals
Age 16 to 18
Challenge Level Yellow star

Given two integrals as a starting point, can you find links to some related integrals?

Going Round in Circles
Age 16 to 18
Challenge Level Yellow star

How many trig functions do you know? This resource will help you link them all together using triangles and circles.

The NRICH Project aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, members of the NRICH team work in a wide range of capacities, including providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.

NRICH is part of the family of activities in the Millennium Mathematics Project.
