Jaunts Into Geometry

Jaunts into Geometry

In this feature we offer two groups of tasks which focus on geometry.

In the first group, you will find tasks which will help you embed the aims of the primary National Curriculum into geometrical contexts.  The second group contains tasks which will help you support geometrical strands of the curriculum using a problem-solving approach.

The article gives more detail about the two groups and explains why we have selected each task.

Geometry in the Primary Curriculum
Age 5 to 11

This article looks at how the National Curriculum aims of problem solving, reasoning and fluency can be embedded in geometry, using NRICH tasks.

Exploring Problem Solving, Reasoning and Fluency in a Geometrical Context
Age 5 to 11

These tasks offer geometrical contexts in which to explore the three aims of the primary National Curriculum for mathematics.

Exploring the Geometrical Strands of the National Curriculum in a Problem-solving Context
Age 5 to 11

This group of tasks will help you support the geometry curriculum using a problem-solving approach.

The NRICH Project aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, members of the NRICH team work in a wide range of capacities, including providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.

NRICH is part of the family of activities in the Millennium Mathematics Project.
