Jump Into Geometry

Jump into Geometry

These tasks all have one thing in common - they focus on geometry.  But what exactly do we mean by 'geometry'?  Well, it might mean being able to describe and sort shapes, and draw or construct them.  Geometry also involves understanding turning (angles) and describing how to rotate, reflect or translate shapes.

We hope you enjoy having a go at these tasks, which will make use of your problem-solving skills as well as your geometrical skills!

Shape Draw
Age 7 to 11
Challenge Level Yellow star

Use the information on these cards to draw the shape that is being described.

Cut Nets
Age 7 to 11
Challenge Level Yellow starYellow star

Each of the nets of nine solid shapes has been cut into two pieces. Can you see which pieces go together?

Stringy Quads
Age 7 to 11
Challenge Level Yellow starYellow star

This practical problem challenges you to make quadrilaterals with a loop of string. You'll need some friends to help!

The NRICH Project aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, members of the NRICH team work in a wide range of capacities, including providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.

NRICH is part of the family of activities in the Millennium Mathematics Project.
