For the case of one quantitative and one qualitative variable, could you somehow represent the data for each value of the qualitative variable separately?  For example, could you show the heights of all of the green-eyed people, all of the brown-eyed people and all of the blue-eyed people as three separate (but related) graphs or displays?  (There is more than one way to do this!)

Alternatively, could you combine them into one display in a meaningful way?

How could you extend your ideas to more than two variables?
